CS2 commends: what they do, three types, how to earn

Updated 15 September 2026

Commends are three counters on the player card that grow when others tick you after a match. Below: what they actually do (and do not), how the three types differ, how to earn them honestly, how to see them on your own and on someone else's profile, and what number "looks normal".

What a commend is in CS2

After a match any player can tick another on the scoreboard with three boxes: friendly, teacher, leader. Each tick adds one to the matching counter on the player card — the one that opens from a nickname in the game. The Steam web profile does not show these numbers: they live inside the game and can be read only from there. A commend cannot be removed, revoked or reset — the counter only goes up, for everyone, always.

What commends do — and what they do not

They give reputation. The card is seen by lobby teammates, people assembling a roster and account buyers — and three numbers side by side read as three confirmations that this person is fine to play with. They give nothing mechanical: no rank, no drops, no faster matchmaking, no direct boost to trust factor — Valve has never named commends in the formula. There is an indirect link, and it runs through reports: a profile with healthy counters gets reported less. The full chain is in the trust factor write-up.

Friendly, teacher, leader — the difference

"Friendly" is given for conduct: did not disrupt, was not toxic, played to the end. "Teacher" for tips and explanations — most often earned by those who talk in voice chat. "Leader" for calls and organising rounds. Mechanically they are equal: the game does not weight one above another. The difference is reputational: one high number next to two zeros looks exactly like what it is, while three comparable ones look like an ordinary active player.

How to earn commends honestly

It comes down to one thing: to be ticked, you have to be noticed for the right reasons. Talk in voice chat — tips and calls earn teacher and leader more often than frags do. Finish matches, do not flame, do not grief — friendly is given for the absence of problems. At the end of a match ask calmly: "+rep, tick me if you liked it" — many simply do not think to open the scoreboard. Play full lobbies with real people: matchmaking and Premier commend more than empty casual servers. Commends are accepted on community servers too — the one rule is that you must have shared a server.

Mutual commending with friends

It works, but with a hard ceiling: one account can commend one profile only once — forever, a repeat does not count. Five friends give five per counter, and that is the end of their contribution. The second ceiling: an account does not commend more than three times a day. The figures and where they come from are in the limits write-up.

How to see commends on your own or someone else's profile

In the game — hover over a nickname on the scoreboard or open the player card from the lobby; the counters sit under the name. Outside the game Steam does not show them — not in the profile, not in the community API. That is what the free checker is for: paste a profile link or SteamID and get the card with three counters, level and medals — read from the game itself, for any public profile, yours or anyone else's.

How many commends count as "a lot"

133 profiles with readable counters have passed through the checker: the median is 60 friendly, 58 teacher, 57 leader; eight profiles at zero. The sample leans towards people already interested in commends, but as a reference it serves: a few dozen per counter looks ordinary, a few hundred stands out, zeros next to a fresh account look like a smurf.

When the honest route is not enough

If you need the counters by a date — for an account sale, for a roster tryout, or just so the card is not empty — they can be bought: prices start with small packages. What to know before paying: commends are irreversible, so count the target from your current values; delivery runs at about 20 commends per five minutes and requires joining our server; we promise neither green trust nor anything else that cannot be verified — more on the risks.
